Southern California relocated corporate headquarters campus expansion for a Family Activity Center designed to provide a retreat for staff briefly stateside for rest or training, between Mission Aviation Fellowship humanitarian assignments to third world countries. The center included great room gathering spaces for flexible groups sizes, and expandable spaces to accommodate change. With a great number of retiring baby-boomers, cultural change was imminent at MAF.

Concepting the design from the inside out, J S D A Inc. collaborated with MAF Design Team committee and leadership team, to generate the visual architectural language, aligned with the existing campus and oriented for future solar panel additions, and direct views to the adjacent airport. Volunteer labor was integrated to craft the children’s play center, featuring the scaled nose and wing of the MAF standard Cesna aircraft inspiring the next generation, reinforcing brand and cultural legacy.

Within a modest footprint, the single story facility contains multiple meeting centers for large scale food service, coffee bar, fireside lounge, game room, children’s daycare facility, study lounge and a fitness room for pilot’s use in daily exercise and yoga groups.
