Chihuly Gardens and Glass Museum was explored by Janice Stevenor Dale while in Seattle for a coastal project design charette. Dale Chihuly is a northwest US native, an American master sculptor in the field of large scale blown glass installations worldwide. The museum building, located beneath the Seattle Space Needle, a mid-century icon 1962, was inspired by Chihuly’s love of glass pavilion buildings throughout history. Permanent exhibits trace his design thinking from native american basketry inspiration to concepts of floating glass vessels. Backlit glass, and intricate layers of colored glass emote fantastical imagery. Highly recommended.
